Beau Headquarters – Best Bakery In Town!
Beau is no stranger to many of us. Having been in charge of huge production of quality bakery goods to various restaurants and cafes for quite some time, Beau has finally set its wings to soar and open their very own cafe. It is a beautiful site which interiors speaks right through to their simplistic aesthetics. It features a bright open space, even the kitchen is visible from the dining area to showcase not only talent, but I suspect the underlying reason is also to make the space more spacious than it actually is.
The cafe features an array of skilfully made cakes, baked breads and also sandwich options. And we can’t really enjoy all that if they don’t serve coffee and tea on the side. Of course Beau takes their coffee beans from one of the best of the best, Common Grounds.
If you know me for a long time or you have been a faithful reader, you would know that bread is my weakness. Finding quality bread can be quite a chore in Jakarta, I mean those made with fresh and least processed ingredients can be quite tough to find. Beau has been my favourite supplier of bread in Jakarta and so far none beats it.
We ordered a Smørrebroød which is a Danish open faced sandwich served on a board. They used either, dark rye bread or brioche which I think you can choose. We didn’t realise it at first and was given dark rye as a pre-empted decision by the waiter I suppose.
Here’s a list of the open sandwich options that I took down from the menu where you can choose from:
1. Prosciutto – Homemade Ricotta, Walnuts , Honey
2. Beef Pastrami – Remoulade, Cornichons, Caramelized Onions, Poached Egg, Crispy Shallots
3. Pork Salami – Red Onion, Tomatoes, Garden Greens
4. Chicken Breast – Pepperade , Cheddar, Parsley
5. Chicken Liver – Caramelized Onion, Mushrooms, Pickled Carrots, Microgreens
6. Gravad Laks – Smoked Salmon, Dill, Yoghurt, Beet, Radish, Microgreens
7. Roasted Pumpkin – Goat Cheese, Garden Greens, Basil
We picked 1, 2 and 6
I love the use of basic ingredients in these open sandwich, very minimal and not a single item that was used was heavily processed. We particularly love the Prosciutto and Beef Salami sandwich.
We wanted something sweet at the end as we were tempted by the options that they had. The best selling eclair was this coffee infused White Coffee Eclair. Within the choux pastry sandwich was a thick and dense white chocolate cream. The consistency wasn’t light, but the thick texture tasted light and airy, oh the contrary right? The denser texture also made us feel like we got more bang out of our bucks. There’s also crunchy malt beads which we initially thought was coffee beans because it looked the part. To top it up a notch, you can also taste light caramel at every bite. Heaven, I know right?
I am so incredibly happy that Beau developed a space where quality breads and pastries can be savoured on site in their own little quiet environment. Its atmospheric condition is of utmost excellence where the focus wasn’t just on food quality, but also it really tickles all the other aspects of our senses. Lighting was for certain, the best you could get and it makes for great Instagram pictures. I am coming back to try out their sandwich options real soon.
Beau oh Beau you’re such a fine beauty.
