The idea of Three buns is to allow the public enjoy great gourmet burgers and house crafted cocktails. Two things in Jakarta that aren’t pulled off quite as well.. specialised gastronomical burgers and elaborately made cocktails. Some reviews online mentioned that their burgers are relatively indifferent, but we thought this was the best burger joint we have been to in Jakarta thus far. You see, we have a thing for greasy burgers, prime patty doneness in medium, absolutely flippin’-tastic sauces. London chef, Adam Penney, is the talented man behind Three Buns, and the idea of it is not to just serve good food and beverages, but also to support local artists in the fields of music, fashion and art. Within the cafe lies an apparel shop and its design is very minimalistic.
Here’s the cocktail bar corner where cocktail mixes are created by famous mixologist, Dre Masso. Three Buns offers a list of handmade sodas, fruity mojitos and frozen coladas. Wait you till hear about desserts.
Naughty Fries, 55 000RP
Naughty Fries is literal in its name, in a sinful way. The oil was drenching at the most bottom so it was a little nasty taking the last fork bites of it, too oily bruh. On the upside, the beef chilli with crisp shallots and a special spiced béarnaise sauce on the fries would send all the boys to the yard. No kidding, we absolutely love the combination of sauces.
Street Truff, 90 000RP
My favourite part of the burger was not just the crisp buttery grilled brioche, but also because my meat was cooked to the perfect medium. When bitten, the moisture of the beef juices still lies intact and it was as greasy and tasty as it could possibly be. Three Buns’s competitive advantage lies among the sauces and I bet recipes of these sauces are highly top secret. The sauces were all house made and the flavours of the sauces were unique and we believe that’s what made Three Buns so special. The sauces in this burger include trued onion jam and den miso mayo. The mix of both was spectacular. According to the waitress, the Street Truff beef patty of 120 grams worth of prime beef. The Street Truff is the more popular burger and it is the house’s favourite.
Honky Tonk, 85 000RP
The Honky Tonk uses a white bun and in between was deep fried chicken battered in soya milk. I drooled just by looking at it on the menu and visualising how the burger would come out like. I love fried chicken and a little twist with the batter goes a long way. This burger also uses a special hot sauce and den miso mayo in its package.
We have not tried desserts because we didn’t have the stomach for it, blame it on the coffee and cake we had elsewhere before coming down here to chow on these burgers. Desserts looked really tempting as they have Peanut Butter & Jelly Time which uses white chocolate bun, morello cherry ketchup, peanut butter ice cream patty, shiso leaf, peanut brittle, served with a side of doughnut fries. Doughnut fries.. hear that?! Another one that seemed all so tempting was The Vanilla Guerilla, consisting of vanilla ice cream patty on hot salted butterscotch sauce covered in dark chocolate brioche bun. I don’t know when I am coming back here but I am sure its pretty soon, and when I do, I’ll try desserts for sure!
