Common Grounds

Common Grounds has good food and great coffee. Owners of Common Grounds are big influencers in the coffee business. Yoshi Tanu, was 2014’s Indonesia Barista Champion; and Irwan Setiawan, Indonesia’s 2014 Latte Art Champion. You can be assured to get top notch coffee quality and latte art, almost 100% of the time. The coffee bar stands in the middle of the cafe and we can all be charmed with baristas making your cuppa. Common Grounds is also a roastery that has partnered up with Melbourne’s coffee connoisseur, Matthew Perger, who is also the head of St Ali’s coffee. St. Ali has also planned to open in Jakarta sometime soon and the location would be close to the Australian Embassy in the South of Jakarta. The one in Melbourne is one of many locals’ favourite coffee roastery and the interior was absolutely rustic and grungy, the generic coffee type place in Melbourne. Matthew Perger took home the title of 2012’s World’s Brewers Cup Championship; also a third place in the 2011’s, and second in the 2013’s World Barista Championship.

Ice Mocha, 40 000RP  + Flat White, 35 000RP + Cruffin

My latte art was an absolute perfection and you can clearly see how smooth the art and foam was.

Truffle Fries, 20 000 RP

We also got a side of Truffle Fries with utterly robust truffle taste. For its price, its a winner.

Eggs Norwegian On Sourdough, 80 000RP

The Eggs Norwegian was tasteful with all the right reasons. The salmon was plenty and we loved the side of greens, spinach underneath with boiled asparagus on top. The hollandaise sauce was very generous and exceptionally delicious. It was rather sweet coming from the butter used for the emulsion but still savoury as seasoned with salt.

Tunisian Shakshouka, 63 000RP

The eggs were lovely but it would have been better if it was half cooked. The tomato reductions had a sweet and a little tangy flavour which was really nice. There were also sausages added that were just a little spicy and perfect for this dish. The dish can be further improved if the bread served was sourdough instead of a simple white toast.

bon appétit

We stayed till we were one of the last ones out and here’s a look of the place when it was almost empty. This place comes alive in the morning, noon and evening time, but not so much at night because of its location. Common Grounds is situated near the entrance of Citywalk Sudirman, a local food hangout for many office goers to fuel up on coffee and food. We thought that the place serves decent quality food with a lot of Australian interpretations towards its dishes. I can see myself coming back here often for sure.
