Essentially cronuts, but Adriano Zumbo calls their version of cronuts as Zonuts. These delicate pastry in one thing that I always come back for, perhaps my favourite item on the menu even. That doughnut and croissant combo made my knees weak, seriously they are fabulous.
Zonut (Lemon & Marshmallow)
They do different Zonut flavours daily, one of the days I was lucky to try on their famous lemon and marshmallow Zonut. The lemon sugar icing was little but definitely strong in both aroma and taste.
Secret Carrot’s Business
Carrot Cake is one of Adriano Zumbo’s specialty. It looks deconstructed but in fact there were a lot of thought put into decorating it. That pretty but messy look is not easy to pull. The base are layers of carrot cake and baked cheese cake. On top are blobs cream cheese mousse with semi dried carrots, crushed carrot cakes and caramelised pecans. Given its size, its really not that guilt liable to the waist.
The Sakuteiki does not cloy. The towering stacks involve unseen mandarin jelly, lime dacquoise, yuzu ganache, sakura mousse, green tea sponge and green tea crunch. With that colour, where do all these flavours come from? Its for you to find out. But just in case you are curious, it was both sweet and citrusy at the same time.
I Pea Freely
I Pea Freely as it name suggests, has pea in it. Its no surprise that the colour it received were caused by the infusion of blueberry. There is also the juice or zest of lemon to balance the candy coated sweetness.
Lemon Meringue Tart
I love having Lemon Meringue Tart from time to time. Adriano Zumbo does an excellent version of it. The meringue was light and airy, and I knew right away that it was in fact made and blowtorched on the day itself.
Orange & Coconut
The orange and coconut was bought a huge sized and then given away for a relative. I did not get to try this one but sure enough the concoction of both orange and coconut gets me curious and I will definitely give it a try soon.
If you remember seeing silver walls illuminated by a pink signage, which I am sure you do from all that hype on Instagram, that my friends, is Adriano Zumbo’s quirky and unique layout. Many tourists that come over to Melbourne can’t leave home without first buying macarons from Adriano Zumbo. I say these macarons are really good, but please, don’t leave without a Zonut!
