Tazio Birraria Pizzeria & Cucina
received all the hype when it opened not long ago. It is an Italian restaurant that supposedly serves great contemporary Italian pizzas made traditionally. My favourite cuisine and heading out for drinks with the girls were just what was needed on a Friday night. The restaurant has warmth tone fixtures, dimly lit lightings, cosy but noisy.

Veneto Pizze, 17.50AUD

My eyes went straight to the Veneto because I spy crispy pancetta as the role ingredient for this pizza. The pairing ingredients were tomatoes, roast red peppers, mozzarella and goats cheese. The pancetta was mad delicious, the other ingredients included. But, the pizza base was weirdly soggy at the center bottom and then I had a thought; don’t all pizzas from all joints go through the same oven/woodfired ovens? That makes them soggy after moving the burning hot pizza straight to a plate right? But what makes the centers of pizza bases in so many (most) restaurants stay crispy? Clearly I am not into science, but at least I am a curious lass ain’t I. If anyone knows why, comment down below, I would love to read your opinions on this.

Carciofi Pizze, 17.50AUD

Pizza base wise, its as soggy as the Veneto, and it kind of spoiled the whole pizza experience. Yes the crusts are crispy, but the centers are not. Again, the toppings were flipping amazing. We just had to order prosciutto and pancetta on the same night, two of my favourite ‘Italian’ things. It used mozzarella and oregano for the cheeses, sliced artichokes and rockets for the greens.

Risotto, 24AUD

The risotto for the night was with roast duck and fennel, very simple and very nice. It needs to be a little bit more creamy to hit excellence. The risotto was garlicky and we loved the taste of it.

Sticky Date Pudding, 9.50AUD

Moving on to desserts, we were torn on what to order but Sticky Date Pudding was definitely a right choice. I have always weirdly enjoyed looking at at melting scoop as makes its way down the sticky date pudding. And yes.. I know, it doesn’t make any sense. The ice cream was vanilla while the bed of syrup underneath was butterscotch. Its hot and cold combo gave us more surge of excitement, #YES. It was sweet, subtle, and the dates did not overpower.

Coffee Panna Cotta, 9.50AUD

The other dessert we ordered was the luxuriously delicate Coffee Panna Cotta with chocolate soil and flowers that ‘grew’ on it. The taste of it was as aesthetically pleasurable as it looks.

We sat at the very corner of the restaurant and it was pretty difficult to get the attention from the waiters. They also seemed to be understaffed but arguably, the waitress were friendly and nice. Overall, I liked Tazio Birraria Pizzeria & Cucina’s pizzas and I think they have great pizza choices for everyone. However, they seriously need to improve on the pizza base quality. Desserts on the other hand were on point. By the way, if you want to know another pizza place in Melbourne which has similar Italian vibe, check out +39 Pizzeria, its my favourite. Tazio Birraria Pizzeria & Cucina was full of adults in suits and ties, semi formal dresses for after the nine to five hours, community reunions, and several couples on dates. Just fancy but not too fancy. And before I end off, thanks again Rachel for the treat! I heart you.
