Shophouse Kitchen 大食家
Shophouse Kitchen 大食家 the other day with Jonathan after school. I hardly ever eat out at QV except perhaps for getting a quick grab-go for sushi rolls. But hey, there is a first time for everything right? He recommended the Chiu Chow Fish Soup that has a clear milky paste and it reminded me a lot what I used to have back in Singapore. The whole bowl is hearty and quite healthy.
This is weird for me as I would usually have pork chops with sides such as fries and veg, not rice and veg. The thickness of the pork was quite thin and there were bones on the sides and middle of it. I can see why it would fit the Cantoneses’ palate in general. Its a nice ‘cheap-eats’ meal but not for the best quality.
The Popcorn Chicken was great. Heavier on the batter, less on the meat though. The best part of the meal tonight was the Chiu Chow Fish Soup and that did the Chinese-Asian flavours proud. I believe that they have other great Asian dishes worth trying for, but for pork chops and steaks, cook them at home or go to a proper steakhouse.
(P.s. Thank you Jonathan Tanean for the treat!)
