Brunch is reimagined when you dine at Industry Beans. Itself is a roasting house that was once awarded the Best New Roastery, and Best Boutique Roaster just this past year (2014). The premises is huge. We sat on stools right at the back of the warehouse and got to watch coffee beans being roasted. Different techniques, tools and precise timings were all crucial factors to blend the perfect roast. Check out #brunchreimagined on Instagram to see their summer menu and some serious intensified plating skills.
Passionfruit Panna Cotta, 17AUD
I wanted something completely different and got myself a Passionfruit Panna Cotta with rosewater compressed watermelon. The rosewater taste really stood out and it was served cold. It was completely juicy and fresh, this is no ordinary watermelon. Full packed antioxidants with plenty of chia seeds on top, more flavour with the rhubarb puree, and granola gave it some extra crunch.
Wild Mushrooms, 21AUD
My friend Isabel went for an amazing choice, the Wild Mushrooms! The polenta chips covered in porcini powder swooned us over and we just died having tasted the truffle foam. All of that, garnished effortlessly with watercress. And when you poke the poached egg, that’s a pretty picture right there. Hashtag yolk porn.
Avocado Smash, 15AUD + Poached Egg, 3.50AUD
Industry Beans does a good classic too. Handful, thick and creamy smashed avocado with plentiful chevre (goat cheese). It was perfect even visually with the right green colour, not unripe, and not overripe. The perfect smashed avocados for me is when there are sizable chunks in between all that mashed sludge. What I am loving the most was how they provide you with a side of green tea sea salt. That was for me, the tip of the iceberg. The partially charred lemon makes the avocado fresher than it already was as well.
I love the concept of open air roasting house and we get to watch coffee roaster machines doing its job. It was a first for me.
Once it reaches a certain colour and at specific duration, coffee beans get poured out.
Stages of colour these beans undergo from its raw green to the perfect roast. Almost odourless or a little like hay when it was at the first stage, and it proceeded to this aromatic state when its dark brown.
It was quite a drag to be noticed by the waiters when we were sitting at the far end of the table. But other than that, Industry Beans has the whole package of a great roaster, spacious warehouse including a beautiful outdoor setting, great food and ambiance. This brunch place is a true winner.
