Innocent Bystander Winery

After a day of adventure, we had dinner at Yarra Valley’s famous restaurant called Innocent Bystander Winery. We had our eyes on the pizza section because they are well known for exactly it. There’s alfresco dining area and we braved through the cold and munched outside. Just kidding! There’s heaters all around so its nice to get to experience the ‘hot’ and the ‘cold’ at the same time.

Truffle & Parmesan Frites, 11AUD
This is the best truffle fries I’ve had in a while. Brilliantly made with the concoction of salty, crispy and cheesy. Every bite leaves a petroleum trace in the mouth. An unspoken rivalry, the four of us were fighting over the last few fries left on the bowl.

Chicken, Date & Pistachio Kofte With Cucumber Yoghurt, 15AUD
5 bucks for a single, mini, tiny, chibi (I just have to emphasize how small) Kofte, are you kidding me? The value of a single kofte wasn’t as gratifying for its price. We felt a little cheated.

Spicy Pork Sausage, Buffalo Mozzarella, San Marzano Tomato & Chilli, 24AUD

The wood fired pizzas had a very nice finish as its external dough wasn’t as crispy as chips. It still has that biteable carb munching sensation right till the end of the last bites of the crusts.

I couldn’t decide which of the two pizzas I prefer more. They both are equal in standards in my opinion. This would have to be dependent solely on preference. They are not the most phenomenal pizzas in the world, but it was tasteful enough to satisfy our grumbling guts.

Cotechino Sausage, San Marzano Tomato, Olive, Sage, Scamorza Bianca Cheese & Pickled Eggplant, 25AUD
We ordered both pizzas with pork contents. I especially loved the cotechino sausage spread and the sage bits sprinkles. They could have skipped with the pickles, and that’s because I’m bias. I have to be.

Spot the wine barrels at the back. Request to wine taste and the waiters would be more than happy to attend to you.
The good news was, it was Anzac Day! We were ecstatic when we found out that our bill was discounted by half price. Now.. we wished we ordered more, maybe another pizza, or perhaps a sharing plate of dessert? Instead of paying 77AUD, we ended up settling with 38.50AUD. That’s 7-8AUD per person for awesome pizzas. Although, I’m still standing my ground to say that 2.50AUD for a single Kofte is still a pricey price to pay.
