SHIOK!!! 2nd Generation Maki
SHIOK!!! 2nd Generation Maki

Shiok Maki has been the talk of the town for quite some time. There’s even a point of time where I see a photo of Shiok Maki at least once a day on Instagram. Koh Grill & Sushi Bar always has a long queue of people waiting to savour for their Shiok Maki. Why? Because they serve the best cheesy mentai maki ever! I’m not even kidding, these are legendary. Koh Grill & Sushi Bar have appeared in papers and magazines several times now. You gotta try to find out what all that rave is about.
There are two variations of the SHIOK Maki. The one above is the 2nd Generation Maki version (16.80SGD). This one has crispy prawn wrapped with lightly toasted salmon and drenched with mentai and tobiko. Eat it when warm because it makes a hell lot of difference. Its like eating lightly warmed cheese on a salmon base, with rice to neutralise the melty texture. Absolutely delicious.

What is ‘Shiok’? ‘Shiok’ is an expression of satisfaction, commonly used in Singapore or Malaysia.

If you thought the SHIOK!!! 2nd Generation Maki was good, wait till you try the original SHIOK!!! Maki (16.80SGD). This one has different rice fillings with unagi being the centre of attraction. The unagi has similar texture to the salmon. Ohhh this tastiness… I can’t even…
Tempura Udon

My friends and I shared the Shiok Maki and ordered a main dish each for ourselves. The Tempura Udon (9SGD) has pretty mild texture. The taste is average.
Tokyo Ramen

Not bad. A pretty decent ramen at 8SGD.
Unagi And Egg Hotplate
Unagi And Egg Hotplate
Fried omelette with Unagi at 12SGD is pretty tasty. Order a plate of rice to eat it with. Also, the egg isn’t overly cooked, which is a plus-plus.
Sake Chirashi

I had Sake Chirashi 13SGD myself. Just throw wasabi away from me, give me anything salmon I can never get sick of it. The salmon is generously coated with oil which makes it more palatable.
Service wise, Koh Grill & Sushi Bar is rather slow as there are limited waiters catering to a huge crowd. Waiting time for the food to be served is also pretty long. My friends and I came here just before dinner time to ensure a spot to seat. We ended up queueing for a short 5-10 minutes. Trust me, if you come during peak periods, expect to wait for at least half hour.
