Hardware Societe

Hardware Societe is not your typical brunch place. Not serving your usual big breakfast or eggs benedict, lots of their menu selection are unique by itself. They have a weekday and weekend menu. The place gets really crowded everyday when its close to noon. Even I who arrived at 10am for brunch was asked to wait for 15-20 minutes before I could get a seat. Just imagine the afternoon crowd?
Went with two girlfriends for Sunday brunch and there is only three dishes that we get to try and eat. Everything was fabulous. I won’t hesitate when I see that Hardware Societe is listed as one of the best brunch places in Melbourne. As a matter of fact it is.

Mushrooms
Mushrooms
The Mushrooms (18AUD) dish is Vegetarian. Hardware Societe uses field mushrooms, Spanish romesco, Chèvre goat cheese, roasted leeks and fried sunny side up with a slice of bread for your daily carb intake. The sauces and basic ingredients combined is just perfect. Perfect in every slice.

Fried Brioche
Fried Brioche
In my Fried Brioche (18AUD), there’s the fabulous dulce de leche and poached quince on top. Dulce de leche is similar to caramel flavour but its not as thick. Think of it as the skimmed version of caramel. Some hazelnuts are crushed to crisp up the food mixture. Finally, some icings are scattered to beautify the whole brioche.
Banana Loaf
Banana Loaf
There’s banoffee (banana-coffee) mousse and caramelised banana sandwiched between two soft breads. Some salted peanuts are added which makes the whole dish prettier. So now we have sweet and salty, Hardware Societe’s clever trick. (15AUD)

Cappucino
Cappuccino
Hi I am Eve, a coffee connoisseur and I’m an addict. (3.50AUD)

Chai Latte
Chai Latte
This Chai Latte (4.50AUD) has ginger and cinnamon in it. Oh god I hate ginger. By the way, guess what is that round sugary ball by the spoon? Hardware Societe does not serve you biscuits, they serve you doughnut balls. My cappuccino above has that doughnut ball too!

This is what the counter back looks like. The China mugs are too pretty to not take a picture of. And by the way, do try their other popular dishes such as Baked Eggs (17AUD) and Croque Madame (20AUD).

This is how Hardware Societe look like from the outside. Winter is transitioning to Spring and people are starting to take their coats off and looking out for places for hot brunch. Coffee and breakfast, simple pleasures of my life.

By the way, I think I should start incorporating pictures of people I’m eating out with. Say Hi to Rachel (left) and Yan (right). I love sharing food and being chitty chatty about everything and anything under the sun shelter. Oh yes, I had a lovely weekend! Cheers.
