Lawry’s The Prime Rib
Lawry’s The Prime Rib is amongst one of the top ‘Wine & Dine’ restaurant in Singapore. Located at the heart of Orchard road in Mandarin Gallery, Lawry’s is a fine dining restaurant suited to celebrate anniversaries and birthdays. It’s also a nice and cosy place for a weekend brunch and a lovely venue for an evening high tea.
I’m not even certain on how much the ribs are priced because it is usually priced differently according to the type of course meals you wish to take. They have frequent festive promotions, events and other bank privileges so that your course meals will always be seen as value for money.
The ribs at Lawry’s The Prime Rib is one of the best I’ve ever tasted, no doubt in my mind.
Red centre sofa chairs with green chairs by the aisle windows facing out with a view of the Heeren mall and the Orchard Building. Yes, green and red are my two favourite complementary colours!
There’s a wine selection area at the background towards the left and a mini bar at the centre back of the picture.
Instead of beers or wines, we ordered Equil Sparkling Water. Sorry to disappoint, I’m not an alcohol fan and so I don’t know how to recommend the what’s good or what’s the best ones..
We also ordered two pots of teas. The one above is Peach Nectar Tea which was sweet and delicate. The other pot we ordered was the Turkish Apple Tea which also has a different kind of subtle sweetness. They have a selection of many tea choices, it’s hard to pick!
Lawry’s The Prime Rib was founded by Lawrence L. Frank and Walter Van De Kamp who designed the famous ‘Silver’ carts. The silver carts are ‘go’ carts where it can be pushed around the restaurant. The chef will then perform the cutting of beef by your tableside and then serve you the Ribs Of Beef according to the level of tenderness you desire.
(Prices after tax and GST amounted up to about 200SGD for 2 pax. I couldn’t exactly remember the exact amount but we ordered course meals and not ala carte) Other than the pictures indicated below, the set also comes with two Dark Chocolate Pralines and two Layers Of Mocha Chocolate Mousse, Häagen-Dazs Chocolate Ice Cream and a Homemade Chocolate Fudge which unfortunately I do not have photos of.
Limpa And Sourdough Bread
I love how both breads are fresh and warm. The butter is also artistically presented. The best part was that these breads are refillable. I can just choke myself in carbs and I’ll be fully contented. Just kidding, I’m definitely much more greedier than that.
Lawry’s Famous Original Spinning Bowl Salad
This was by far the most entertaining salad ‘performance’ I’ve seen in my life. The waitress comes up to our table with a cart whom then proceed to do the salad ‘performance’. The salad is made tableside in a bowl set into a large bucket of ice. The salad bowl is then spun while the waitress adds the dressing. That’s one reason why my salad is cold fresh with its dressing fairly evened out.
Roasted Chicken Pasta Chowder
It’s creamy potato chowder with fusilli pasta. I love it big time.
Smoked Salmon Roulade
I had a taste of heaven eating the rolled up Smoked Salmon with Black Caviar and Lemon Vinaigrette.
Roasted Prime Ribs Of Beef (Medium Well)
And to the winner dish of all, the Roasted Prime Ribs of Beef. The above ribs is weighed at 180 grams. Its served with an Au Jus (light sauce), Idaho Mashed Potatoes with Brown Gravy, Cream Spinach and a Yorkshire Pudding. I apologise for totally forgetting to take a shot on Lawry’s signature Yorkshire Pudding. It’s the most tender ribs of beef I’ve ever tasted. The ratings would have been a full score if the spinach was nice.
Roasted Prime Ribs Of Beef (Medium)
Drum rolls everyone! The cream corn was not only a much better option, it was indeed the perfect side option. Again, one of the best cream corn I’ve ever tried. Yes.. ever!
Before we had dinner at Lawry’s, we made a reservation for two. We were also asked if we’re celebrating any particular occasion. If you’re celebrating birthdays or anniversaries, Lawry’s The Prime Rib will serve you a Raspberry Trifle on the house. In the midst of our lovely dinner, we were also approached by one of the waiter for a quick snapshot with their camera. The shot was immediately printed, put in their classic paper frame and then handed to us. I value their quality service and how much they want to make our evening special and memorable.
Two thumbs up for the fabulous restaurant in all aspects.
