Makansutra – Gluttons Bay
Satay Set (Chicken + Mutton)
Makansutra Gluttons Bay is a type of local food centre conveniently located at the southern geographical area of Singapore smacked right alongside City Hall district. The area is surrounded by a sensational view of the Marina Bay Skyline. Makansutra food centre adopts an open-air concept and its a famous local and tourist hotspot.
The chicken and mutton satay set is exceptionally tasty. I love the combination of meat dipped in peanut gravy. Many of you people who are allergic to peanuts.. shame on you! Just kidding… But you’re really missing out. Unlike other food centres, the ketupat served at Makansutra is especially softer in texture which made it easier to chew. Oh good heavens…
When eating out at food centres in groups, Orh Luak (oyster omelette) is usually one of the traditional dishes that has to be ordered. I’m not really sure if the oysters are relatively fresh because I don’t take oysters (I usually only eat the omelette). They taste weird no matter how fresh or how stale they are. Orh Luak and my taste buds can just never ever compromise.
Same preference goes to cockles, not really my cup of tea. However, once cooked and put together with Char Kway Tiao is a different story.
I don’t know how the chinese came up with such an innovative and ‘ingenius’ name for this dish. Hm…? I really love this dish especially with the sweet chili complementing the clams.
Kang Kong is one of my favourite vegetables because its best to be cooked with sambal (my favourite chili). Sambal originates from Indonesia and they are basically fresh chilies that are crushed and mixed with certain condiments to get the various different types of sambals. I typically love those served with ‘Nasi Lemak’ or ‘Ayam Penyet’. The spicier the better!
I have never tried a distasteful barbercued stingray ever. All the stingrays grilled in every food centre seemed to be congruous in flavour. Yeap! They all taste similarly superb! Most locals order this dish whenever they head down to food centres and I totally and perfectly understand why. Quick tip: Don’t think, just order.
Four of my friends including me spent less than 15SGD per pax for all the dishes listed above. The prices are dependent on how much you order in terms of weight/numbers. It was a pleasant experience for me at Makansutra Gluttons Bay as we visited this food centre during the NDP preview. We got to watch free fireworks and just be mesmerised by the fanciful lights and skyline of Marina Bay.
